Signature Specimens

Signature sample

Signature identification requires an adequate quantity of known genuine signatures for comparison with a questioned or disputed signature. In addition, it is important that these known signatures are of good quality.

Obtaining Signature Specimens for Comparison

It is recommended that the following factors be considered when obtaining known comparison signatures:

  1. Genuine signatures written from around the date of the questioned signature;
  2. Genuine signatures written under the same alleged or known circumstances and written on similar materials; and
  3. Genuine writing written with a similar writing instrument (ball point pen, fountain pen, roller ball pen, pencil, etc.).
